Very happy

I am very happy right now. The weather has gotten so good and work is speeding along at a great pace. We have already caught up on everything that was behind. The rain had kept us from pouring cement on a couple of jobs, but that is no longer a problem. I have four new jobs waiting for the crews to start and can even do some hiring as well. These new jobs are very large and will help employment in my area in a major way. Construction has been down a bit over the winter, but is looking much better now. My staff is ecstatic over this as much as I am. Things are definitely looking up for the spring and summer months.

Work

Well business is doing well, but the weather is not being cooperative. There has been nothing but rain, and just when it clears up and the ground dries up, it rains again. That makes it very difficult to pour concrete. Other then that, I have had a lot of new contracts for us and the spring and summer work looks to be really good this year. There is a lot of building and reconstruction going on. I am certainly glad we do a little bit of everything. It keeps us busy when everyone else is floundering.

Too much rain

There has just been too much rain lately. We cannot pour concrete in the rain. I have two job sites on hold until the storms pass. I hope this isn’t a portent of the spring we have coming, because it will put us really far behind our deadlines. If we don’t make our dead lines, we lose money. Our contract has penalties for finishing the jobs late. Note to self; make sure that late deadlines due to severe weather cannot be held against the company in the future. Grrrr

Work

Well it’s hard to pour concrete in the rain. It is possible if you have a heating element in the mix, but that is much more expensive. We have been having a lot of problems with the rain lately, but at least it has been warmer. It has been almost too warm for the season. Yesterday was about seventy degrees and it is December already.

This week is supposed to dip down to the low twenties and we might even get some snow. That is really going to put a damper on work. The timing could not be worse with Christmas only fifteen days away. I take good care of my employees and do not like to have them with less then their usual forty hours this close to Christmas. I will have to make up for it with a really good holiday bonus. Fortunately, I have set aside some money just in case of just this kind of problem. I know that they will really appreciate it.

No yard work tomorrow

I am not happy with mother nature right now. The weather is warm enough to get some yard work done, but it is going to rain all weekend. I don’t want to be stuck in the house all weekend with nothing to do. I was really looking forward to puttering around the yard and sheds. Now I have to find something else to do with my time. My wife will be busy with her best friend planning a wedding and I am going to be bored. Maybe I will pester them and try to help. That should be amusing at least. Ha ha !
