A little good out of bad

Well the problems that I was having with whomever was destroying my mailbox almost daily has ended but it had interesting effects on my neighbors. Now they all want whitehall mailboxes like mine. I actually find that a little humorous considering. The new topic of the neighborhood BBQ’s has become  residential mailboxes. I could almost thank the person responsible had they not cost me so much money in such a short period of time. However, now that it has stopped, it is still the talk of the neighborhood.

That doesn’t really bother me though, because it has helped to spur my neighbors into doing a little sprucing up of their own houses, and right now mailboxes are on the top of the list. Whatever works is what I always say, so I am content at the moment. I am helping the little old lady down the street with hers. She is on a fixed income and I try to help her with any repairs she needs on her house. She expressed a liking for our new mailbox, so I decided to gift her with one. I will put it in at night so she can be surprised when she goes out the next day to check the mail.

My mailbox

Okay, I have officially figured out that it is not a neighbor who mangled my mailbox, but a kid. I know this because I put a new one up and two days later it was mangled again. I am not happy about this situation. Finding residential mailboxes isn’t hard to do, but having to do it twice in one month is irritating. So it is back to the drawing board and buying yet another mailbox. The last one my wife didn’t like as much as I did, so she is picking out the mailbox this time. This ought to be good.

She has been looking at designer mailboxes and victorian mailboxes. At least the victorian ones are really heavy duty. The little prankster who keeps mangling ours is going to have a difficult time with one of those. I think I will set up a camera for a couple of nights after we put up the new one. That way if someone tries to mangle it, I can catch them on video. I haven’t decided if I will take the video to the police or not, it really depends on who it is that is doing this.

My mailbox

Someone ran over my mailbox last night. I didn’t hear a thing though, which is surprising. I figure one of the neighbors did it backing out, but what I can’t figure is that they didn’t bother to call me today. I get along great with all my neighbors, so this is quite surprising. Mailboxes are not very expensive, so I am not very worried over it. Perhaps whoever ran over it either didn’t notice or has fallen on hard times and embarrassed to admit they cannot replace it.

It really doesn’t matter. I have already found residential mailboxes online and ordered one. It should be here by the end of next week. My mail lady was already by and promised that she would just bring the mail to the porch for me, so I wouldn’t have to go to the post office everyday to fetch it. I think the Christmas bonus we give her is paying off. Well, I am off for the day. Have a good one.
