Everyone knows that California is having huge financial problems as a state. There have been all kinds of government services cut or eliminated. Now the local government of the City of Oakland, California is considering closing 14 of its 18 public libraries. So the locals decided to have a little protest. A handful of protesters put on makeup and declared themselves to be zombies. The zombies marched along a main street in Oakland with signs about needing brains and libraries. It was pretty weird.

It seems that most of the country is having a very hot summer, with record setting high temperatures all along the East Coast and throughout the southeast. The temperature has been above 90 degrees since the third week of May. We may well set a new record for the number of consecutive days with temperatures above 90 degrees.

With all this rain and the grass growing like crazy, this is going to be a banner year for ticks, fleas and other outdoor bugs. I’m mostly worried about mosquitoes. I do go outdoors enough during the week to make it worthwhile slathering on insect repellent, so I feel like a moving target at dusk. On the weekends if I’m outside, I’ll go ahead and use some bug spray.

Time for my dogs to get their Frontline so they are protected against the bugs, too.

There has been all kinds of stories on the internet and TV about this kook in California who gave birth to a litter of 8 babies. This kind of irresponsible action by a crazy woman makes me sick. Its bad enough that she chose to have 8 babies at once. But it turns out that she has 6 others already at home. Let me tell you, that first 6 was too many. To have another 8 is just grossly irresponsible. There is no way a single mom can possible take care of and financially support 14 children by herself. Good luck finding a man to date, too. Stupid women shouldn’t be allowed to breed.

Peanut butter and peanut butter products are being recalled practically daily. The FDA has a list of recalled peanut products on their web site.

They keep saying that the regular jars of peanut butter sold on grocery shelves are not part of this recall. They say that the recalled products are food that contain peanut butter like commercially made peanut butter cookies, crackers, cereal, candy and ice cream.

I’m a fan of peanut butter and I don’t like the way new products keep being discovered each week and get added to the list. Some things you thought were safe last week are now not safe and should be destroyed. What is taking them over a month to discover the tainted products that keep getting added to this list? WTF?

I’m sure my parents generation is just astounded that a black even ran for President, much less won the election. I hear the old timers making side bets on how long he will be in office before there is an assassinaiton attempt. I think that is an awful thing to say and I get riled up when they start talking redneck trash like that. The man is a good man, a family man, god-fearing and obviously very intelligent. I say give him a chance to deliver on his promises and wish our new President well. It’s a tough job and he just might pull us all through this bad stretch of economic mess that wall Street got us into.
